James Wade vs Jermaine Wattimena prediction
A second-round exit at the PDC World Darts Championship aside, James Wade has been typically strong in the big events this year, reaching the quarter-finals of the World Masters before appearing in a second consecutive UK Open final.
The Machine also has a stellar record at Winter Gardens, having won the event in 2010 as well as appearing in a further six finals, most recently last year where he just came up short against Luke Littler.
Jermaine Wattimena has not fared as well in Blackpool, with last year's opening-round win against Peter Wright marking the first time he had won a game at the World Matchplay on his fifth entry.
The fiery Dutchman should be feeling positive about his game though, as he is coming off the back of reaching the final of the European Darts Open just last weekend. He has also won the last four meetings with Wade.
That sets up what could potentially be one of the ties of the first round. There are reasons to favour both players here, so the safest play might be to back over 16.5 legs.
James Wade vs Jermaine Wattimena tip: Over 16.5 legs
