James Duckworth vs Flavio Cobolli prediction
James Duckworth picked up his first win at Wimbledon since 2021 as he defeated Tallon Griekspoor in the first-round. The Australian crucially won four games in a row from 5-3 down in the third as Griekspoor served for a two sets to one lead, turning the match on its head. He broke again in the seventh game of the fourth and served it out to win 6-4 4-6 7-5 6-4.
He will now face Flavio Cobolli. The Roland Garros finalist was tested by Mariano Navone but would go on to complete a four set win. The Italian made a poor start to the match and went behind, before recovering to win 1-6 7-6 (5) 6-3 7-6 (8). Cobolli saved five set points in the fourth set as Navone threatened a decider.
Cobolli was hardly convincing in his first-round match, and that will provide Duckworth with encouragement. Nevertheless, the Italian, who reached the quarter-finals at SW19 last year, will be expected to progress.
