He qualified for the Brisbane International and pushed Alex Michelsen all the way in their first-round match, losing in three sets. He was then on the end of a straight sets loss to Tomas Machac in round one of Adelaide, with Machac going on to win the tournament.
His first-round opponent is Dino Prizmic. The Croatian enters the draw as a lucky loser, after failing to make it out of the qualifying stages. He won his first two matches but lost his third match to Arthur Fery. The 20-year-old enjoyed some success on the Challenger Tour last season but he’s still searching for his first main draw win at a major.
Duckworth will look to neutralise the pace of Prizmic’s groundstrokes and extend the rallies until openings appear. His experience could give him the edge here, but the younger Prizmic will fancy his chances if it heads to five sets.
