James Duckworth vs Alex Michelsen prediction
James Duckworth begins yet another season on tour ranked 87 in the world. His best result on the ATP Tour last season was a semi-final appearance in Almaty. He fared well in Challenger events, making four finals and winning two titles in Sydney and San Luis Potosi. Duckworth qualified for this tournament after two straight set wins.
Alex Michelsen is his first-round opponent in Brisbane. Michelsen reached a high of 30 in the world last July and is still just inside the top 40 of the rankings, despite struggling towards the end of the campaign. The 21-year-old got through to his first Masters quarter-final in Toronto, but his form largely deserted him after that, apart from a semi-final finish in Almaty.
Michelsen won their only previous meeting as a teenager in Newport two and a half years ago. Duckworth is likely to enjoy these conditions at home, but Michelsen will come into this as the favourite and is expected to win.
