Jakub Mensik vs Ugo Blanchet prediction
Jakub Mensik got through his first-round match against Nicolas Jarry in three sets. The 19-year-old went an early break up in the first two sets but was pegged back by Jarry, who did not fall away despite the Chilean falling to yet another defeat after Wimbledon. Mensik made 19 less unforced errors than Jarry’s 40, as he won 7-6 6-3 6-4.
He will take on Ugo Blanchet in round two. Blanchet continued his momentum from qualifying as he won his first ever match at a Grand Slam after defeating Fabian Marozsan in four sets. The Hungarian levelled the match in set two, but Blanchet edged a tight tiebreak, saving a set point, before racing ahead in the fourth to win 6-4 3-6 7-6 6-2 after two hours and 47 minutes.
Mensik is the far more seasoned competitor on tour despite his age, and he will look to overwhelm Blanchet in the early exchanges with his strong serve and hefty groundstrokes. The Czech enjoys these conditions, having won the Miami Open earlier this year, and we expect another straight sets win.
