Jakub Mensik vs Nicolas Jarry prediction
Jakub Mensik has not enjoyed the best hard court preparation ahead of the US Open. He could only reach the third-round in Toronto after receiving a bye, losing to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets. He then retired from his third-round match against Luca Nardi in Cincinnati due to illness but he’s fit for this event. Nevertheless, the 19-year-old does have a Masters hard court title to his name this season after his success in Miami.
Nicolas Jarry is his first-round opponent. The Chilean had been struggling all season before his incredible run at Wimbledon, where he made the fourth-round from the qualifying stage. However, he has returned to his old ways and hasn’t picked up a victory since then, with first-round defeats in Toronto, Cincinnati and Winston-Salem.
Mensik isn’t operating at the level in which he was showing in the spring, but he’s still a commanding favourite on this occasion against an out-of-form Jarry.
