Jakub Mensik vs Matteo Gigante prediction
Jakub Mensik’s first match since his triumph at the Miami Open saw him lose in the first-round of the BMW Open to Yannick Hanfmann. However, his next tournament on clay was far more encouraging as he reeled off three successive wins before a hard-fought clash with Francisco Cerundolo in the quarter-finals. Mensik forced a decider with a battling performance but eventually ran out of steam and lost 6-3 6-7 6-2.
Matteo Gigante advanced through to the second round after a straight sets win over Arthur Rinderknech. Chances were few and far between in this one, with just two trades of serve throughout the whole match. The Italian performed strongly in the pressure points to win both tiebreaks and set up a match with Mensik at his home tournament.
Mensik seems to have recovered from his blip in Munich and will want to carry the momentum on after a really encouraging showing in Madrid. The youngster should get his campaign off to a winning start.
