Jakub Mensik won on debut in Basel to tee up a round of 16 clash with Joao Fonseca.

The Czech seventh seed shrugged off blowing a match point in the second set to eventually prevail 7-6 6-7 6-3 against Swiss teenager Henry Bernet. 

It means Mensik will now face Fonseca for the second time after the Brazilian saw off Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6 6-3.

This will be a first senior clash after Fonseca edged a five-setter at the Next Gen finals last year and there will no doubt be many more to come in the future between two rising stars of the sport.

Both players have the serve and forehands to do damage in these conditions and much like their Next Gen tussle, there is likely to be swings of momentum and, with that in mind, a punt on hit going the distance seems worthwhile.
