2024 was a real breakthrough year for the up-and-coming Jakub Mensik and he began 2025 in similar fashion with quarter-final appearances in both Brisbane and Auckland before reaching the third round at the Australian Open.
The 19-year-old has suffered a couple of tough losses since then, but he battled his way past veteran Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut in three sets in the first round here in Miami, showing some excellent composure in the key moments.
In Jack Draper though, he is facing a man who is the talk of the tennis world at the moment. The Brit, now ranked seventh in the ATP rankings, is coming fresh off winning the Indian Wells Open last week in what was the undoubtedly the biggest moment of the 23-year-old’s career. Draper defeated three Americans – Jenson Brooksby, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton – on his way to the 1000-rated title, while he also claimed the notable scalps of Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune.
Given his incredible form, Draper is the obvious pick here with his main obstacle being potential fatigue from his recent exploits. Providing he has recovered from winning the so-called fifth major, we think a straight-sets win for the Brit is likely.
