Jakub Mensik vs Grigor Dimitrov prediction
Jakub Mensik avoided a huge upset in the first-round of Wimbledon as he beat Toby Samuel in five sets. Samuel, who was making his first appearance at SW19 in front of a home crowd, was competitive against Mensik throughout and went a break up in the deciding set. However, Mensik rallied and despite failing to serve out the match, he controlled the 10-point tiebreak to win 5-7 6-3 6-3 3-6 7-6 (7).
He will now face 2014 semi-finalist Grigor Dimitrov for a place in the third-round. The Bulgarian progressed to the next stage after a straight sets win over Dane Sweeny. Dimitrov struck 23 aces on his way to winning 7-6 (4) 6-3 7-5. This was the former world number three’s first Wimbledon match since sustaining a pectoral injury against Jannik Sinner in last year’s round-of-16 after leading by two sets to love, and he was visibly emotional at the end of the match.
Dimitrov still possesses all the tools to trouble players on grass, and Mensik did struggle at times in his first-round match.
