Jakub Mensik vs Ethan Quinn prediction

Jannik Sinner may have his sights on a third straight Australian Open title, but Jakub Mensik has hopes of a ‘Threepeat’ of his own.

Okay, it’s not quite on the scale of lifting a major, but the reigning Miami Masters champion is bidding to make it three wins from three against Ethan Quinn and break new ground by reaching the round of 16 at a Grand Slam for the first time.

The Czech comfortably saw off qualifier Rafael Jodar in the second round after surviving a five-set test against Pablo Carreno Busta, which has seen him extend his winning streak to six matches on the back of a title run in Auckland.

The head-to-head and fabulous form make the 16th seed a strong favourite against world number 80, Quinn, but the American has also impressed with straight sets wins over both Tallon Griekspoor and Hubert Hurkacz, which is no mean feat on a hard court.

Mensik didn’t drop a set in his two encounters with Ethan last year, but that could change with both players producing superb tennis here and chasing a career first.

We feel Mensik will progress but it may not be in three like many are expecting, so it's worth being slightly cautious.
