Jacob Fearnley vs Elias Ymer prediction
Jacob Fearnley avenged last season’s defeat to Tallon Griekspoor at the same stage of the Stockholm Open as he defeated the Dutchman to get through to the round-of-16. It wasn’t all plain sailing for the Briton, as he was broken when serving to seal the match in straight sets, with Griekspoor forcing a decider by winning the second set tiebreak. Nevertheless, Fearnley held his nerve in the deciding breaker to win 6-3 6-7 7-6 after two hours and 44 minutes. This was a fine victory for the 24-year-old after a period of poor form, and he will be aiming for consecutive wins at a tournament for the first time since Queen’s Club.
He will now be playing Elias Ymer after he defeated brother Mikael in straight sets. Both players had been struggling leading up to the match, with Elias on an eight match losing run and Mikael only just returning from injury, but the eldest of the two made the faster start and kept his cool in the second to win 6-2 7-6.
This is a fabulous opportunity for Fearnley to make a deep run at an event before the end of the season, and he will be a strong favourite to defeat the Swede.
