Jacob Fearnley got off to a winning start on his Queen’s Club debut as he defeated Australian qualifier Alex Bolt 6-2 6-4 in the first-round. The British number two did not face a break point as he enjoyed a comfortable win which lasted just over an hour.
He now goes up against Corentin Moutet as he produced an upset late on day two of the tournament. Taylor Fritz was coming off the back of a title in Stuttgart, but Moutet staged a comeback to defeat the world number four 6-7 7-6 7-5. Fritz had a match point on his serve in the second set tiebreak but Moutet managed to save it and pull off one of his most impressive victories of the season so far.
This will be their first match on grass, but they have played once before with Fearnley defeating Moutet 6-2 7-6 in the first-round of the Stockholm Open last year. Moutet will be full of confidence after such an impressive win, but Fearnley is steadily improving and is likely to rise to the occasion with home support behind him.
