Jack Draper stormed into the semi-finals in Madrid with a crushing 6-0 6-4 win over Matteo Arnaldi that also propelled him into the world’s top five. 

The British number one completely overpowered the Italian, who never looked like continuing the adventure that had seen him upset Novak Djokovic earlier in the tournament. 

Draper’s relentless and easy power makes him a major threat in these conditions and a second Masters 1000 title of the season isn’t beyond the realms of possibility. 

Next up, he will face a man in equally imperious form in the shape of Lorenzo Musetti. 

The Italian is one win away from making it back-to-back Masters 1000 finals after despatching Canada’s lucky loser Gabriel Diallo 6-4 6-3.

The 10th seed will hope his proficiency on clay will be telling in his fourth meeting with Draper, having lost all previous encounters with the Brit. 

This is the first on the dirt and that may be a significant leveller, although Musetti’s one-handed backhand may come under intense pressure from Draper’s leftie forehand, which has been firing on all cylinders in the Spanish capital.
