Jack Draper continued his comeback from injury with a second straight win as he beat fellow Brit Jack Pinnington Jones to advance to the quarter-finals. The former world number four failed to serve out the set initially but did so at the second attempt after breaking Pinnington Jones’ serve for the second time in the match. He went on to win 7-5 6-4.
He will face Gabriel Diallo next. The Canadian won back-to-back matches for the first time since March after beating Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Diallo went behind after losing a mammoth first set tiebreak, but he recovered well to win 6-7 (11) 6-3 6-2. He faced just the one break point and was not broken on serve.
This will be Draper’s toughest test of the week so far, especially if Diallo continues to serve well. However, the former British number one’s growing confidence and increasing match sharpness on grass should give him the edge.
