Naomi Osaka will need to defeat one of the rising stars of women’s tennis if she is to reach the round of 16 in Paris for the very first time.
The Japanese star has looked sharp in the first two rounds, but the four-time Major winner has never been completely happy on clay and Iva Jovic will provide a real test of the former world number one in these conditions.
The American teenager impressed in a 6-0 6-2 dismantling of her compatriot Emma Navarro while Osaka was also rock solid in her 7-6 6-4 win over Olympic silver medallist Donna Vekic.
This could be a real scrap if Osaka settles into the contest and there is scope for it going the distance, although if pushed for a winner we would side with an 18-year-old who seems destined to be a top ten player sooner rather than later.
