Iva Jovic began her Wuhan Open campaign with a straight sets win over Dayana Yastremska. Jovic was pegged back on two occasions in the first set but still pulled clear to take the lead. She then dominated the second, winning eight of the last nine games to complete a 6-4 6-1 win. Jovic, who defended her Guadalajara Open title last month, has won seven of her last eight matches.

She plays Maja Chwalinska next. The Pole produced an impressive comeback win in the previous round, defeating Marie Bouzkova. Chwalinska struggled at the beginning of the match but dominated sets two and three to win 1-6 6-1 6-1. The Roland Garros finalist’s form has picked up on hard courts during this Asian swing, as she also advanced to the semi-finals of the Singapore Open. 

Nevertheless, Jovic should be able to generate attacking opportunities against her opponent, while she has produced the stronger results on this surface.
