Iva Jovic is seeded for the first time at a Grand Slam and comes into the major with some strong results in the warmup events. The 18-year-old won three matches in Auckland to get through to the semi-finals, where she lost to eventual champion Elina Svitolina. She went one better in Hobart with four more victories, though she could not capture the title after a straight sets defeat in the final to Elisabetta Cocciaretto. Jovic has seven wins from her nine matches in 2026 so far.
She takes on Katie Volynets in round one. Volynets did not qualify in Brisbane after a three set defeat to Anna Bondar, though she managed to do so in Adelaide. Despite the two qualifying victories, she lost in the first-round against Ann Li.
Jovic is a rising star and is improving at a rapid rate in terms of her development. She is likely to dominate a lot of the exchanges against Volynets and is a firm favourite to make it through.
