Irina-Camelia Begu, once ranked 22nd in the world back in 2016, has qualified as a result of having her ranking protected due to injury. The veteran Romanian made it through qualification before a defeat of Venus Williams in Bad Homburg last week, eventually being hammered 6-1 6-1 by eventual Karolina Muchova.
