Ipswich preview: O’Neil’s Ipswich

Following their promotion to the top-flight and then the subsequent departure of Kieran McKenna, Gary O’Neil has made a bright start to life as Ipswich Town boss with two victories in the Premier League so far this season.

The Suffolk-based outfit, who spent heavily over the summer, did head into the international break on the back of a slender 1-0 defeat to Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in a game that they were reduced to ten men in the second-half.

Fulham preview: Still winless

Alvaro Arbeloa replaced Marco Silva over the summer and, after also losing key men such as Harry Wilson and Raul Jimenez, Fulham remain winless in the Premier League thus far but they showed signs of improvement before the break.

A victory against West Ham United in the third round of the EFL Cup was sandwiched between a week in which The Cottagers earned a goalless draw against Liverpool at Anfield before a 1-1 draw with Manchester United, leading late on in that one.

Ipswich team news: Fatawu suspended

As mentioned, Ipswich went down to ten men against Everton with Ghana international winger Abdul Fatawu receiving two yellow cards and so he is now missing through suspension.

It could well be that Jaden Philogene gets his first Premier League start of the season, while midfielder Jack Taylor remains the only injury issue for the hosts.

Further details will appear here following pre-match press conferences…

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Scherpen; O’Shea, Diop, Greaves, Davis; Palacios, Lukic; Philogene, Enciso, Clarke; Emersonn

Unavailable: Fatawu (Suspended)

Questionable: Taylor (Injured)

Fulham team news: Nothing fresh

There doesn’t appear to be any fresh injury concerns for Alvaro Arbeloa to deal with as the former Real Madrid boss continues to discover a formula.

Club captain Tom Cairney remains the only confirmed injury absentee for the visitors, while right-back Kenny Tete is working his way back to fitness.

Further details will appear here following pre-match press conferences…

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Leno; Castagne, Affengruber, Bassey, Robinson; Berge, Charles; Bobb, King, Iwobi; Garcia

Unavailable: Cairney (Injured)

Questionable: Tete (Injured)

Key stats

  • Ipswich are unbeaten in four Premier League meetings with Fulham (W1 D3). Their only win was 1-0 at Portman Road in January 2002.
  • The last two meetings, both in 2024/25, were draws: 1-1 at Portman Road and 2-2 at Craven Cottage.
  • Ipswich have won only two of their 21 home Premier League games since returning to the top flight in 2024/25 (D4 L15). One of those wins was 2-1 against Sunderland on the opening weekend of this season.
  • Ipswich have conceded in each of their last 24 Premier League matches, a club record (previous longest: 15 in 1995). Their last clean sheet was a 2-0 win over Chelsea on 30 December 2024.
  • Coming into Matchweek 6, Ipswich are one of four teams without a clean sheet this season (with Bournemouth, Chelsea and Man Utd).
  • Ipswich matches have produced 18 goals in five games this season, an average of 3.60 per game: seven scored, 11 conceded.
  • Coming into Matchweek 6, Fulham are one of three sides without a win this season (D2 L3). Their 2 points is their second-lowest total after five games of a Premier League season (1 point in 2020/21).
  • Fulham are winless in seven Premier League away games. Their last away win was 3-1 at Sunderland on 22 February 2026.
  • Fulham have failed to score in each of their last two away games (0-1 at Sunderland, 0-0 at Liverpool), but that 0-0 at Anfield was their only clean sheet of the season.
  • Fulham won only four of 19 away league games last season (D5 L10).
  • On this day in 1994 (10 October), Ipswich lost 2-0 at Coventry City in the Premier League.

Ipswich vs Fulham prediction

Fulham showed signs of improvement in those games against Liverpool and United but there will also be a view that Arbeloa’s style of football and his intention is expected to better against the best when they get a bit more time and space to play, as against United, or simply backs against the wall as against Liverpool. Ipswich will make things a little more awkward for them and a low-scoring contest remains likely, albeit in a different sort of game to those two.

Ipswich vs Fulham tip: Under 2.5 goals
