Ignacio Buse staged a remarkable recovery to get his season off to a winning start with a first-round win over Francesco Passaro. Buse was broken for the first time when he was serving to stay in the first set. He looked set for an early exit as Passaro broke on two occasions to go 5-1 up. He goes up against fourth seed Sebastian Baez. The Argentinian began the season in incredible fashion, as he won his first seven matches by winning all of his matches at the United Cup and advancing to the final of the Auckland Open. He was unable to win the title after a loss to Jakub Mensik, but a five win over Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard saw him make the second-round of the Australian Open.
Baez is a two-time defending Rio champion and has won six-tour level titles on clay. He has started the campaign strongly and should have too much for Buse.
