Ignacio Buse notched up his first tour-level title in Hamburg last month, with the Peruvian defeating Tommy Paul in the final. He then competed at the French Open just a few days later, but he was handed a tough draw and fell to a first-round defeat against Andrey Rublev. He is closing in on the top 30 of the world rankings.
His first-round opponent is Rafael Jodar. The Spaniard advanced to his first ever Grand Slam quarter-final on just his second major appearance at Roland Garros. He served for the first set against Alexander Zverev, but he was broken and faded as the match wore on, losing in straight sets. Nevertheless, it was an incredible clay court season for Jodar, as he also won his first title in Marrakesh and reached two Masters 1000 quarter-finals in Madrid and Rome.
He has limited experience on grass, and this is set to be his first tour-level match on the surface. Jodar will be expected to come out on top, but the uncertainty surrounding his level on grass makes this an intriguing match to watch.
