Ignacio Buse produced his best display of the season so far as he came from a set down to beat home favourite and third seed Joao Fonseca. Buse was broken towards the end of the first set but did not drop his serve after that as he won 5-7 6-3 6-4. The Italian saved eight out of nine break point opportunities during the match.
Matteo Berrettini is his next opponent. The 2021 Wimbledon finalist also recovered from a first set deficit as he beat Dusan Lajovic. Berrettini was broken in his first service game and fell behind after set one. Nevertheless, his level improved as the match wore on and he came back to win 3-6 6-4 6-2 after two hours and nine minutes.
Berrettini is the favourite, but he will be tested by Buse, who should be taking a lot of confidence from his victory over Fonseca in the previous round.
