Ignacio Buse notched up his first tour-level title in Hamburg last month, with the Peruvian defeating Tommy Paul in the final. He then competed at the French Open just a few days later, but he was handed a tough draw and fell to a first-round defeat against Andrey Rublev. He is closing in on the top 30 of the world rankings.
He will face Marcos Giron in the first-round, with the American entering the main draw as a lucky loser following Rafael Jodar’s withdrawal from the tournament. He defeated veteran Dan Evans in the first stage of qualifying but then lost to Rinky Hijikata in three sets. Giron competed at the Stuttgart Open last week and was close to defeating top seed and eventual champion Ben Shelton in the round-of-16. The match went to a deciding set tiebreak, with Shelton prevailing and going on to win the tournament.
