Ignacio Buse reached the semi-finals of the Winston-Salem Open after a three set victory over Juan Manuel Cerundolo. There were 11 breaks of serve during the match, but Buse dominated the deciding set to win 7-6 (4) 4-6 6-2. Buse is seeking his second tour-level title of the season, having already won the Hamburg Open back in May.
He will face Benjamin Bonzi for a place in the final. Bonzi advanced to his first semi-final on the ATP Tour this season after getting past Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets. Van de Zandschulp went up an early break in the match, but Bonzi did not concede another break point as he won 7-6 (5) 6-4. He has also beaten the likes of Quentin Halys and Rinky Hijikata this week.
Buse’s superior returning could make put the Frenchman under pressure, but Bonzi has now won four matches in a row. With little separating the pair, a competitive encounter looks likely.
