Iga Swiatek survived her toughest assignment of the US Open so far as she squeezed past Marie Bouzkova in two tiebreaks to advance. The former world number one was 3-0 down in the second set and had to save three set points at 6-5 down, but she showed her class in the second breaker of the match to seal a 7-6 (3) 7-6 (3) victory. Swiatek is yet to drop a set at this year’s event, and she has now won 13 of her last 14 matches overall.

She will now face Qinwen Zheng for a place in the last eight. The 2024 Olympic champion produced one of the greatest comebacks in recent major history, as she came from 5-0 down in the final set against Madison Keys to win 1-6 7-6 (3) 7-5, saving a match point in the process. The Chinese player, who only entered the main draw through qualifying, has now won six matches in a row.

Swiatek leads the head-to-head 7-1 and 5-0 on outdoor hard court. Zheng’s comeback in the previous round was remarkable, but she has already been pushed to three sets in each of her three main draw matches, and it may be a step too far against the six-time Grand Slam champion.
