Iga Swiatek began the defence of her Cincinnati Open title with a crushing win over Emiliana Arango. Swiatek, who won her first title since September 2025 in Toronto a few days earlier, continued her fine start to the North American hard court swing as she won 6-3 6-0 after just one hour and 11 minutes. The Pole converted five out of six break point opportunities.
She now faces Maria Sakkari. The Greek came through a three set match with Kamilla Rakhimova to advance. Sakkari created 19 break point opportunities in total but did struggle to hold serve as she won 6-2 5-7 6-1.
Swiatek leads the head-to-head 5-4 and 5-2 on outdoor hard court. They have already met on two occasions in 2026; Sakkari came from a set down to win their match in Doha, with Swiatek easily winning at Indian Wells a month later. The six-time Grand Slam champion is enjoying her best run of form for quite some time.
