Iga Swiatek vs Jasmine Paolini prediction
Iga Swiatek broke new ground at the Cincinnati Open as she made the final for the first time after defeating Elena Rybakina in the semi-finals. The six-time Grand Slam champion was in trouble early on as she went a break down, with the Kazakhstani serving for the set at 5-4. Swiatek raised her game immediately to reel off three straight games in a row to go in front, before breaking the Rybakina serve in the fourth game of the second to win 7-5 6-3.
Jasmine Paolini will be her opponent in the final after the Italian defeated Veronika Kudermetova. The Italian was well in control after going a set and a break up but Kudermetova, who was enjoying her best run at a tournament this year, broke back and forced a decider after winning the second set tiebreak. Paolini recovered well from that blip to win 6-3 6-7 6-3.
Swiatek has a commanding record in the head-to-head as she leads 5-0. They last competed on a hard court in the first-round of the 2022 US Open, with Swiatek winning 6-3 6-0 on her way to her only title at Flushing Meadows so far. Their most recent match was in June at the Bad Homburg Open, with the world number three again coming out on top in fine fashion, defeating Paolini 6-1 6-3.
Swiatek has still not dropped a set in this tournament and will be delighted to have the opportunity to add another title to her collection so soon after Wimbledon. Paolini is undefeated in WTA 1000 finals after two previous wins, but Swiatek will be an immensely strong favourite.
