Iga Swiatek got through her third-round match against Camila Osorio as her Colombian opponent was forced to retire before the start of the second set. Swiatek had already taken the first 6-0. Despite the scoreline, the six-time Grand Slam champion still had to save a break point in each of her service games as Osorio applied pressure. Swiatek is seeking her fourth title out of the last six tournaments.
Emma Navarro also advanced due to a retirement as Lois Boisson was affected by a thigh problem. Navarro was comfortably leading 6-2 1-0 at the time. This is the first time the American has made it through to the round-of-16 at a WTA 1000 event this season, but she will now have her work cut out against the world number two.
Swiatek leads the head-to-head 2-0 and 1-0 on hard courts. They faced each other earlier this season in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, with the Pole brushing aside Navarro to win 6-1 6-2. We think there’s a strong chance she wins in straight sets again here, with the American lacking the necessary weapons to truly trouble Swiatek.
