Iga Swiatek vs Elena Rybakina prediction
Iga Swiatek reached her first singles final since September last year as she battled past Elina Svitolina in three sets at the Canadian Open. The Pole did struggle in the second set and went a break down early in the decider, but regrouped brilliantly to win 6-3 1-6 6-3 after two hours and 17 minutes. She is now through to her 14th career WTA 1000 final.
She faces Elena Rybakina. The world number two came from a set down to beat Coco Gauff in the other semi-final. Gauff broke in the 12th game of the first set to take the lead, but Rybakina largely controlled the rest of the encounter to win 5-7 6-2 6-2. She now has 26 hard court victories this season, more than any other WTA player.
The head-to-head is 6-6 between the pair, with Rybakina winning their last encounter at the quarter-final stage of this year’s Australian Open on her way to winning her second Grand Slam title. Swiatek has produced some of her best tennis of the year at this event, but Rybakina has shown tremendous resolve to overcome a number of tough opponents. This has the makings of an absorbing final.
