Iga Swiatek extended her winning run to eight matches as she came from a set down to beat Maria Sakkari at the Cincinnati Open. Swiatek, who won her first title in 11 months last week in Toronto, committed 17 unforced errors in the first set as she went behind. However, she then won 12 of the next 14 games to complete a 4-6 6-1 6-1 win after one hour and 58 minutes.
She now faces Diane Parry after she continued her fine run at the tournament with a win over compatriot Lois Boisson. Parry won 4-6 6-4 6-3. This is now the second time in her career that she has advanced to the round-of-16 at WTA 1000 level, following Indian Wells in 2024.
Swiatek and Parry have faced each other on one previous occasion, with the six-time Grand Slam champion easily winning 6-1 6-1 in the second-round of the Paris Olympics. Swiatek will be expected to win in dominant fashion once again.
