Iga Swiatek vs Anna Kalinskaya prediction

Iga Swiatek was not at her best but still advanced to the quarter-finals with a straight sets win over Sorana Cirstea. Swiatek seemed to be struggling in the sweltering conditions at times, being broken twice in the second set, but she was never in danger as she wrapped up a 6-4 6-3 win after an hour and 35 minutes. She’s into the last eight of this tournament for the third straight year.

She will go up against Anna Kalinskaya after she finally registered a victory at the seventh time of asking against Ekaterina Alexandrova in the round-of-16. Alexandrova served resolutely in the first two sets but Kalinskaya raised her game in the second set tiebreak to draw level, before leaving her opponent in her wake in the third as she won 3-6 7-6 6-1. 

Kalinskaya won the only previous encounter between the pair, defeating Swiatek 6-4 6-4 in the semi-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships last year. She is in encouraging form and can cause problems for the six-time Grand Slam champion if her aggressive gameplan pays off. Nevertheless, Swiatek will have benefitted from their first match against each other and should be able to problem solve and find a way through.
