Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud sent out a message to the rest of the competition with a resounding triumph over Madison Keys and Frances Tiafoe in their first match. The pair dominated through, playing excellent doubles tennis both in front of the net and at the baseline, winning 4-1, 4-2. Swiatek and Ruud clearly have good chemistry on court and should build on that here with a short turnaround between games.
Lorenzo Musetti and Caty McNally had to fight hard in the opening round, but eventually made it through to set up this quarter-final. Whilst USA’s McNally showed that she is a strong doubles player, Musetti did need time to settle in and adapt to the change in format. He can’t afford a slow start in this one or both he and his partner will be punished.
Expect a tight contest, but for the power and finesse of Swiatek and Ruud to win out in the end and for the them to advance through into the final four.
