This seven-game series gets underway between the Islanders and the Capitals with the New Yorkers having a great record in the playoffs against their opponents winning five of the previous seven series. The last time they met came back in 2015 and the Caps won that series so little attention can be paid to their previous meetings. The Islanders overcame the Florida Panthers 3-1 in the qualifiers to reach the first round but they will need their D to be at their best against Alex Ovechkin and company. The matchup between Islanders’ defensemen Pelech and Pulock against Ovi could well decide the series. The Caps will also be desperate to get key defenseman John Carlson back and he is a game-time decision for this game. The Caps should raise their performance levels following their average results in the seeding round-robin and they can get the W in this opening game.
