Hugo Grenier vs Sebastian Baez prediction
Hugo Grenier only entered the tournament as a lucky loser, but he is through to the second-round after a three set win over Roman Safiullin. The Frenchman took the lead after squeezing past Safullin in a close first set tiebreak. The Russian fought back in the second and looked to have struck the decisive blow as he broke in the fifth game of the decider to go 3-2 up. However, Grenier reeled off the next four games in a row to clinch a 7-6 (6) 4-6 6-3 win after two hours and 19 minutes. He also fired down 14 aces.
He now plays Sebastian Baez, with the Argentine receiving a bye in round one. He dropped down to compete on the Challenger Tour in Cancun last week, and won three matches in a row without losing a set to reach the final of the event. He was unable to win the title after a three set loss to Hubert Hurkacz. That was Baez’s third final of the season in total.
Baez is the clear favourite, but Grenier’s victory over Safiullin suggests this may not be completely straightforward. The Frenchman’s serve gives him a route to keeping sets close.
Hugo Grenier vs Sebastian Baez tip: Over 20.5 games
