Hugo Gaston is through to the main draw at Wimbledon after winning all three of his qualifying matches. He has just the one victory at the All England Club, with his best result being a second-round appearance in 2022. Gaston is yet to win on the ATP Tour this season, with his best results being two Challenger semi-finals.
He faces former world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas in round one. The Greek’s ranking has now dropped to 88 in the world. He decided to compete at the Mallorca Championships last week, having won the event in 2022, but he lost his opening match to Ignacio Buse in straight sets. Tsitsipas has failed to better his result as a 19-year-old in 2018, which saw him advance to the round-of-16 at the All England Club.
Tsitsipas has been incredibly inconsistent over the past 18 months, and he has struggled badly at Grand Slams, having failed to progress beyond the second-round of a major since the 2024 French Open. Nevertheless, Gaston’s heavy topspin game does not translate too well to grass, and Tsitsipas will be expected to prevail.
