Hugo Gaston vs Shintaro Mochizuki prediction
Hugo Gaston’s poor season continued as he lost to eventual winner Marton Fucsovics in the first-round of the Winston-Salem Open. The Frenchman has struggled to make any type of impact on the ATP Tour this season and his best result on the Challenger Tour is a quarter-final in Pheonix during the spring. He is without a win in four matches.
He will take on Shintaro Mochizuki who qualified for his second successive Grand Slam. His performances on the grass were very impressive with a Challenger final appearance in Nottingham followed up by a second-round at Wimbledon, where he pushed Karen Khachanov all the way in five sets. He also qualified for his first Masters tournament of the year in Toronto last month.
Mochizuki has the momentum from his victories in qualifying and should be able do well in these conditions, as he performs well at the net and covers the court effectively with his strong movement. We favour him to beat the out-of-form Gaston in round one.
