Hugo Gaston has just one win from his last six matches and that victory only came about due to Mattia Bellucci retiring in the final set of their match at the Canadian Open in the first-round. Gaston has not performed strongly this season and has only got past the second-round of a tournament on one occasion in 2025.
He will go up against Marton Fucsovics in the first-round of Winston-Salem. The Hungarian has featured in just one event since his run to the third-round of Wimbledon as a lucky loser. He competed on clay in Kitzbuhel but lost in round two to Alexander Shevchenko. He does have a victory on the Challenger Tour in Manama, while he also made the semi-finals of the Bucharest Open earlier this year after winning the title in 2024. The 33-year-old is struggling to stay fit these days, but he remains a threat when healthy.
Fucsovics has a superior all-round game and should have too much for Gaston in round one.
