It has not been a great season for either of these two teams but this clash between Huddersfield Giants and Catalans Dragons is one of the most evenly-matched ties of the weekend according to the betting markets. That is somewhat harsh on the French outfit who sit eighth place in the Super League table, having won nine matches as they come up against bottom club Huddersfield.
The hosts will be desperate not to finish bottom of the pile this season but they have lost 17 of their 21 matches this season and it has been a season to forget for them. They have however won their last two against York and Hull FC and are showing more fight than they have all season.
The Giants have offered free tickets for this match ahead of what they say will be a momentous announcement about where they will play their rugby from next season onwards which adds intrigue around the match. How that announcement is perceived could very well have a positive or negative impact on the match and performance of the Giants so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.
The Dragons are however better than both York Knights and Hull FC, so we are not quite buying the Giants’ revival just yet. We like the French outfit to get the win here and as underdogs.
