THE LOWDOWN
It has been a brilliant year for Adayar with Charlie Appleby’s charge winning the Derby and King George so it was little surprise to see him supplemented at a cost of €120,000 earlier in the week. He battles it out at the head of the market with Tarnawa with the five-year-old filly looking to continue here excellent run of form with Christophe Soumillon on board for the first time this season. Appleby has another strong fancy in this race with Hurricane Lane attracting plenty of interest having won the Irish Derby and St. Leger and coming out of a low draw in stall two, he will be an interesting prospect for Godolphin. Aidan O’Brien has several horses in with a chance but his best opportunity comes in the fall of Snowfall having won both the English and Irish Oaks.
THE PREDICTION
This looks like an excellent renewal with plenty possessing chances and it would be a real surprise if any of the four listed above failed to finish in first. They are the first four in the market with a big gap to the rest of the field and all boast claims to get their nose in front. With some top-class wins to their name, it is a tough job dissecting which brings the best form into this famous race but slight preference is for Adayar. Charlie Appleby will be quietly confident of training the winner here but Adayar just gets the nod with William Buick on board, making it three Group 1 wins in succession for the horse.
