THE LOWDOWN
The Cross Country Chase should be a fascinating contest this year with Easysland and Tiger Roll set to do battle once again. The latter won this race in 2018 and 2019 before the French raider got the better of him last year. Easysland produced a poor performance in his last run which was at Cheltenham in November with him only managing to finish fourth but it is likely that he was just being primed for this race. Age may well be catching up with the legendary dual Grand National winner having performed poorly since finishing 17 lengths behind his rival in last year’s renewal and he has plenty to do to overturn that form. Another horse of interest is Potters Corner and he too has the quality to prevail on his day but he has also performed poorly of late with his latest appearance sat Exeter seeing him pull up.
THE PREDICTION
If Tiger Roll is on top form, he can record another success in this race but the 11-year-old might find it tough going against a horse four years his junior in Easysland. The French horse announced himself to the British racing scene with a breath-taking performance to win this race last year as he demolished the field with Tiger Roll a long way behind in second spot. He will relish being back on the cross country circuit and with the ground set to suit more than it did on his last outing back in November, he can reclaim his crown here.
