THE LOWDOWN
This Novices’ Chase kicks off day 2 of the Cheltenham Festival and one of the most-fancied horses of the week will get the chance to impress. Monkfish has made a glittering start to his career and the 4-year-old has managed to win his last six races. The most recent of those were all while chasing while he also got his nose in front in last year’s Albert Bartlett. The Big Breakaway and Eklat De Rire are not without chances as they also bring some solid form into the race with the latter winning his last three for Henry de Bromhead.
THE PREDICTION
A lot of pre-Festival talk has been about Willie Mullins’ Monkfish and he could light up day 2. As one of only two C&D winners from the small field of six, Paul Townend should be able to navigate the course with confidence. Monkfish has taken to chasing very well, winning all three of his starts so far and it would likely take a blunder to prevent him recording success here.
