THE LOWDOWN
For the second year in a row, Altior has been ruled out of the Queen Mother Champion Chase and that has opened the door for Chacun Pour Soi to have a clean run at getting his nose in front. Willie Mullins’ 9-year-old bay gelding is now clearly the classiest horse in the field and it is his race to lose. Fellow veteran Politologue will hope he can do enough to defend his crown but the grey may find it tough going this time around owing to the form of the favourite. One horse that could be in the mix at a big price is Notebook who has trailed Chacun Pour Soi in his last two outings but he is an impressive chaser and can improve on last year’s sixth place in the Arkle. Put The Kettle On won that race at 16/1 and having won three races from three over C&D, the mare could well put herself into the mix for a place.
THE PREDICTION
Chacun Pour Soi is the one they all have to beat with the classy chaser in pole position to land a fifth straight win. A winner of both races over this distance, everything appears to have fallen into place for him to land this major event and really cement his status. He has seen off some high-quality horses such as Min, A Plus Tard and Defi Du Seuil in his career to date but he can once again see off all before him here to land this. Put The Kettle On is likely to be a front runner once again and having shown she loves it around here, a place is on the cards for the mare.
