Holger Rune recovered from a slow start to defeat Mackenzie McDonald in three sets and book a place in the last eight of Queen’s Club. The Dane rapidly increased his level in the second and third sets, winning 2-6 6-1 6-1.
He now takes on Roberto Bautista Agut. The 37-year-old staged a fine comeback to defeat teenager Jakub Mensik in the last round. He squandered an initial chance to serve out the match in the decider but subsequently broke the Mensik serve straight away to give himself another opportunity, winning 3-6 6-3 7-5. The Spaniard was match point down in his first-round match but is now into the last eight.
This will be their first meeting on grass, but they’ve played against each other on three previous occasions with Rune winning all of them. They last competed just a few weeks ago in the first-round of Roland Garros, with the Dane beating Bautista Agut in four sets. Bautista Agut is a plucky competitor and has the consistency to take a set off the third seed, but we fully expect Rune to make it through.
