Holger Rune vs Mackenzie McDonald prediction

Holger Rune was not broken on his serve as he recorded a comfortable 6-3 6-4 win over lucky loser Christopher O’Connell in the first-round of Queen’s Club. The fourth seed has already improved upon his performance at the event from last year and now takes on Mackenzie McDonald for a place in the last eight.

McDonald pulled off a fine result in the first-round as he defeated French veteran Gael Monfils in straight sets. The American returned well and was sharp at the net as he won 6-4 6-4. 

They’ve played against each other on two previous occasions. Rune won their first meeting, in the second-round of Indian Wells two years ago, beating McDonald in two sets. The American came out on top in their last match in Cincinnati in 2023, as the Dane was forced to retire midway through.

McDonald is an effective player on the grass, highlighted by his run to the fourth-round of Wimbledon in 2018, and performed well against Monfils but this a match Rune should still be wrapping up in straight sets.
