Hamad Medjedovic continued his unbeaten record against Aleksandar Kovacevic as he booked his place in the next round of the Auckland Open. This was a tight affair, with Medjedovic leading, only for Kovacevic to break at the start of the second to level the match up. It went to a deciding tiebreak, with the Serb coming out on top.

He faces Jakub Mensik. The 20-year-old rose to prominence in the spring of last year with his superb victory at the Miami Open, defeating Novak Djokovic in the final. His form was largely patchy after that, and his United Cup campaign last week continued in that trend as he lost two of his three matches.

Mensik starts this match as the favourite, especially with that fearsome serve, but Medjedovic also has an aggressive game and will be confident of springing an upset. The Czech is likely to be tested on this occasion.
