Hamad Medjedovic got off to a strong start in Winston-Salem as he beat Arthur Rinderknech in straight sets. The Serb broke Rinderknech in his very first service game to take an early lead. The second set went on serve, with Medjedovic finally clinching victory in a lengthy tiebreak on his seventh match point overall. He faced just one break point throughout the entire match.
Jacob Fearnley received a bye in round one as he is seeded for this tournament. The Brit is suffering from his worst run of form of the season, which began after a disappointing first-round loss to Joao Fonseca on the first day of Wimbledon.
