Grigor Dimitrov produced a brilliant display on Court One as he defeated Jakub Mensik in four sets to progress to the third-round of Wimbledon. The 35-year-old was 3-1 down in the fourth set, but reeled off the final five games to complete a 7-6 (5) 4-6 7-5 6-3 win after three hours and 15 minutes. He saved 13 out of 15 break points during the entire contest.
He will face Matteo Berrettini for a place in the round-of-16. The Italian continued his run at SW19 with a four set win over Arthur Fils on Centre Court. The 2021 Wimbledon finalist dropped his serve on just the one occasion as he completed a 6-4 7-5 3-6 6-3 win after two hours and 51 minutes.
The head-to-head is 1-1 between the pair, but they have not played against each other on grass, and this will be their first meeting since 2019. Both players have performed strongly at the start of the tournament. Berrettini’s serve may give him the edge in the biggest moments, but Dimitrov’s variety, movement and confidence on grass suggest this will be one of the most closely contested matches of the third-round.
