Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard returns to Basel after his stunning title win last year, where he beat Ben Shelton in the final. This would have been a disappointment for the Brazilian, who had skipped the Asian swing to rest and also went a break up in each set against Van de Zandschulp. He will want to end his first full season on the ATP Tour strongly.
Mpetshi Perricard knows the pressure is on to deliver but he has looked better in recent weeks and that powerful serve may just give him enough free points against Fonseca in round one.
