Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard ended his four match losing run in the first-round of the Canadian Open. He conceded just one break point and won 83% of his first serve points as he cruised to a 6-4 6-2 win over qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki.
Holger Rune will be competing in his first match on tour in nearly a month. His last tournament proved to be a huge disappointment, as he lost in the first-round of Wimbledon to Nicolas Jarry despite being two sets up. That ended a very tough grass court season for the Dane in general, and he will be hoping for an improvement in his performances during the North American summer swing. Mpetshi Perricard does lead the head-to-head 1-0, beating Rune 7-6 6-4 in the semi-finals of the Basel Open in the autumn last year. This isn’t the easiest of matches for the world number nine to make his return after a few weeks away from the tour, and Mpetshi Perricard is likely to be prove competitive with that serve of his. Rune should be able to battle his way through, but he will have to work hard for the win.
